There are customers who believe our organization’s policies and practices are unreasonable. This can make our task to assist and inform them far more challenging. Customers can become aggressive and verbally abusive if they perceive an injustice. How should we react when a customer responds with personal attacks and aggression? This session will address strategies to help you effectively manage these unacceptable customer interactions while maintaining professional dignity.
Objectives:
- Discuss how to use empathy and personalization.
- Recognize how to determine and set professional boundaries.
- Identify when and how to discontinue the conversation.

Getting Your Balance Back: Intentional Design to Boost Inclusion and Better Manage the Transient Journey
Presented by: Marcia Alvarado,PE, WGI
As you navigate the world, do you ever feel yourself disoriented or walking awkwardly through our buildings and structures? The quality of design has a strong presence on the quality of human lives. How we design, plan, and manage our transient journeys can enhance or restrict a sense of belonging. This session will cover design awareness of the community experience, user engagement, and accountability of accessibility diversity by ownership.
Objectives:
- Compare and evaluate their own organization's biking program.
- Initiate the steps to identify stakeholders, partner with colleagues, and solicit input on a biking program at their organization.
- Provide the background information to design or redesign an employee biking program of their own.
Protecting Your Most Precious Asset: Your People
Presented by: Tiffany Peebles, Parking Authority of River City, Ky.
Today's climate with COVID, civil unrest, and uncertainty in the workplace has caused our people to be anxious and annoyed. It is more vital than ever to help members of your team know their individual worth and help them continue to excel to their best potential, even in uncertain times. Protecting their minds and sometimes their jobs can make a difference that positively affects your bottom line.
Objectives:
- Recognize how to empower your staff through encouragement.
- Identify the strengths of staff in different times.
- Create a culture for sustainability.

Mastering Your Mentor Mojo: Unlocking the Power of Mentorships to Propel Your Career

Some of us have been fortunate to have a great mentor while others are drawn to the ideals of service and want to mentor others themselves. We'll discuss the importance of mentorships and share tips on forming the most effective relationships. We'll consider the perspective of the mentee in choosing a mentor and discuss what a mentor must do to make the relationship and outcomes positive and lasting.
Objectives:
- Discuss the importance of mentorships in today's work world.
- Identify best practices to follow when building a mentor-mentee relationship.
- Outline roles and responsibilities for both the mentor and mentee.

As the world emerges from the pandemic, our industry’s frontline personnel are reporting an alarming increase in the number of hostile and aggressive contacts with members of the public. This informal session will provide an opportunity for attendees to discuss best practices, what’s working in your operations, current challenges, and how we can build effective frontline resources to better serve our teams. Come prepared to share your experiences and to learn from your peers.
Objectives:
- Recognize the environment for frontline staff post pandemic
- Discuss best practices to best serve customers, your team, and the organization
- Describe challenges and brainstorm solutions
