Getting Paid the More You Bike: Incentivizing Biking to Work
Presented by: Josh Cantor, CAPP, and Janet Walker, George Mason University
"I have just turned in my parking pass and am committing to biking” sounds great. But how? Join Josh Cantor, CAPP, and Janet Walker from George Mason University as they outline the steps they took to redesign Mason’s faculty/staff biking program. Hear how they enrolled faculty/staff cyclists, partnered with Payroll colleagues, and created a taxable program that supports cycling at multiple levels. They’ll outline the steps they took, costs, and lessons learned along the way.
Objectives:
- Recognize why customer service is the key to bringing back old customers and winning new ones.
- Learn how to evaluate the customer experience and judge the effects customer service issues are having on the bottom line.
- Create a plan for improving customer service designed to help their facilities hold onto existing customers and win back lost ones.
Transit Goes Green: Real-World Sustainability Solutions for Mobility Professionals
Presented by: Madison Huemmer, iParq; Sue Thompson, Thompson Parking & Mobility Consultants; and Brett Dodson, Oregon Health and Science University
A director, consultant, and vendor walk into a room—and discuss sustainability. Each party can bring unique perspectives and solutions to the table to help institutions create green parking initiatives. This panel will discuss small and large action items you can put into action with your team to become more eco-friendly, including incentivizing biking and carpooling, virtual permits, cutting or eliminating paper use, promoting easy access to recycling, and more.
Objectives:
- Discuss types of sustainability measures that can be implemented at operations of varying types, sizes, and locations.
- Provide real-world examples and case studies of parking and transportation operations that have implemented sustainability measures, what they implemented, and how they were able to do it.
- Provide a roadmap of ways to garner buy-in from stakeholders and provide steps/recommendations to follow to implement successful sustainability measures.

Partnership for the Community: Why You Want Partners Who Can Make the Technology Journey with You
Presented by: Roamy Valera, CAPP, PayByPhone Technologies Inc.
Roamy Valera, CAPP, will discuss how a commitment to partnership and building community can enhance the value of your vendor relationship. This effort is not just a traditional customer/vendor relationship, but rather an investment in a true partnership. He will also share use case scenarios of programs in major cities in North America and groundbreaking approaches designed to improve the quality of life for residents, support local business development, and most recently, help local businesses recover from the economic shutdown caused by the pandemic.
Objectives:
- Learn why traditional vendor relationships are now longer sufficient and why it’s essential for relationships with vendors to be true partnerships.
- Understand how the major cities, residents, and businesses have benefited from this new approach to a parking technology partnership.
- Master how to create a true community partnership.
