Over the past couple of years, the City of Greenville has committed to becoming an industry leader in smart cities initiatives. Parking and mobility within the City are making the greatest impacts towards advancing as a smart city. In 2019 Sprint announced Greenville, S.C. as the World’s First Smart City powered by 5G. The city will work with the mobile provider to build smart infrastructure in order to fully showcase the power of 5G technology. The technology aims to unveil micropositioning to activate autonomous vehicles and drones to navigate the city and react to commands. The city made the decision to fully upgrade the parking access and revenue control system for 11 garages. The upgrade to TIBA Parking Systems and the implementation of license plate recognition technology will be completed in July 2020.
